EVIL MASQUERADE

WELCOME TO THE SHOW
(Frontiers)

Evil Masquerade is a new special band coming from Denmark. They characterize their music as “theatrical metal” and after I listened to this album I believe that this term is suitable for their music! Lets take a look at the band’s members. First of all we have the talented Henrik Flyman (Moahni Moahna, Zool) on guitars, Henrik Brockmann (Royal Hunt) on vocals, Kasper Gram on bass and Dennis Buhl on drums. Their sound is a little bit strange but open-minded fans will love it! Listen to the classical influences mixed with hard rock, neoclassical metal, progressive and power metal together with the wonderful vocals! The CD begins with a classical theme composed by Wagner and is followed by some neoclassical guitar playing. After this the title song begins and it is very melodic and catchy. Then follows nine more tracks in the same theatrical style, which have many influences from classical compositions. The whole atmosphere of the album is just like when you watch a theatrical performance or a hard rock musical! Flyman wrote all music and lyrics and that’s why this album may remind you of the masterpiece that Moahni Moahna released in the past (“Why”). The production (Henrik Flyman again!) is very professional, but I would prefer it heavier... Also the guest keyboard players must in no case be ignored because they are experienced and famous: Mats Olausson (Malmsteen, Ark), André Andersen (Royal Hunt, Cornerstone), Richard Andersson (Time Requiem, Majestic) and finally Lars Boutrup! Fans of Moahni Moahna, early Malmsteen’s albums, Royal Hunt and symphonic/neoclassical metal music must defiantly listen to it!

G.K. 8/10
